A cascading waterfall flows down a series of rocky ledges, surrounded by lush green hills. A lone tree stands on the cliff edge above the falls, against a dramatic cloudy sky.

The Stairway

Photography often teaches you the value of patience. Some locations, like this series of cascades, demand it. The falls are rarely at their peak, more often a subdued flow or even completely dry. But its proximity to a road I travel regularly meant I could keep a watchful eye on it. After countless drive-bys with a sigh of disappointment, I finally hit the jackpot. The water was thundering down the limestone steps, a sight to behold. To top it off, the sky was a dramatic canvas of storm clouds, adding an intensity that mirrored the power of the falls. It was a reminder that sometimes, the most rewarding shots are the ones that require persistent observation and a bit of luck.
