Alien Forms

While I usually find joy in the vibrant hues of colour photography, certain landscapes demand the starkness and drama of black and white. The otherworldly rock formations on Bridestones Moor, etched against an ominous, swirling sky, were one such scene.

These towering sculptures, shaped by millennia of relentless wind erosion, seemed to defy explanation. The vibrant colours of the landscape felt almost distracting, failing to capture the raw, timeless essence of this place. It was as if I’d stumbled onto the set of a science fiction film – a landscape both alien and hauntingly familiar.

Instinctively, I switched my camera to monochrome. Suddenly, the true character of the moor emerged. Every curve and crevice of the rocks, every subtle shift in the texture of the clouds, was laid bare. The resulting image, captures the raw, timeless essence of this incredible place. It’s a testament to the power of black and white photography to distill a scene to its purest, most evocative form.
